Michelle Denoncourt is a regional manager with M&T Bank in Titanium, North Baltimore. When not banking, Michelle spends time with her three boys and Cub Scout Pack 828 that meets at Havenwood Presbyterian Church.

Serving eight years, Michelle Denoncourt recently received the 2013 Outstanding Unit Scouter award from the Dulaney District of the Boy Scouts of America’s Baltimore Council. Her husband, Mark, also received the award. He served as a den leader for five of his eight years as a volunteer. The family got involved in scouting because Mark was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout as a boy.

“We are big fans of scouting,” said Michelle, who likes how scouting teaches leadership and self-reliance. “Scouts learn great skills – how to safely start a fire, cook an egg, use a pocket knife, and work as a team.”

From their first campout to their last, the boys learn skills that can last them a lifetime.

“It’s encouraging to watch first-graders at their first campout, bringing teddy bears,” Michelle said. “By the time they get to fifth grade, they are leading others, setting up their own tents, and planning campouts. They take the younger Cubs under their wing, telling them, ‘You are going to be just fine.’”

Volunteering is a family affair for the Denoncourts.

“Our sons volunteer side by side with us,” said Michelle, whose 14-yeaer-old son, Henry, served as a den chief for his younger brother Sam’s den. “It is a good family activity, and scouting  is as rewarding to the volunteers as much as it for the boys.”

M&T Bank encourages employees to volunteer in their communities.

“I pick activities that are personal to me,” said Michelle, who also takes her dog, Bingo, to nursing homes and serves on the board for the Baltimore County Public Library Foundation, an outlet for her passion for children’s literacy.

“M&T Bank encourages us to get involved in activities that we are passionate about,” said the woman who is admired by many for her can-do attitude.
